Baby P’s mother Tracey Connelly is preparing a fresh bid for freedom – and is set to give evidence at her own parole hearing.
The evil mum, who let her infant son be tortured to death, is making yet another attempt to be released from jail after two previous bids were rejected.
It is likely she will be granted legal aid so she can be represented at the hearing.
Connelly wants to convince the Parole Board that it is safe to let her go, and is hoping to be released later this year.
Prison sources suggest she has started a relationship with an old friend, an insurance salesman called Paul.
She believes that could help her parole application, and it is believed she will say they will set up home together.
A Parole Board spokesman said: “We can confirm that a panel of the Parole Board has directed the parole review for Tracey Connelly should be considered at an oral hearing. At this time no date has been set for an oral hearing.
“We are unable to comment further on the individual details of this case.”
Experts will decide whether she should be freed – and whether she is still deemed to be a danger to the public.
Connelly was recalled to jail in 2015 for selling indecent photos of herself to sickos online.
It came 18 months after she was released on licence in 2013 after being jailed in 2009 over the death of her 17-month-old son Peter.
Inmates can only submit applications every two years. Her release was blocked in 2015 and 2017. Now she hopes to secure her release from Low Newton top-security prison in Co Durham.
Among the reasons for giving her the chance to speak for herself at an oral hearing, “fairness to the prisoner” is deemed to be the overriding concern.
She was initially jailed in 2009 after she admitted causing or allowing the death of a child. Baby Peter died in 2007 having been tortured by her lover Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen.
Barker got a 12-year term for his “major role” in Peter’s death. Owen was jailed indefinitely with a minimum three years, later changed to a fixed six-year term. He was freed in 2011 but later recalled to prison.
Earlier this year, a letter written from jail revealed how Connelly dismissed her involvement in her son’s death and detailed her friendship with mass murderer Rose West.
She said House of Horrors killer West had been helping her to lose weight.
She told a penfriend: “Me and Rose live on the same wing, she is teaching me how to cook… and we play Scrabble.
“People said we were in a relationship – but where they got the idea I’m a lesbian is beyond me! It’s a shame people believe that rubbish.”
Connelly also revealed that she thinks she is innocent, even though she hid Barker and Owen’s torture of Peter from social workers.
In the 2017 letter, published by the Sunday People, she also discussed baking a cake to celebrate her impending divorce from husband of 19 years Andrew George.
